Apr 27    "Festival La 29" Celebrates el dia de los niƱos" The day of the children

“Business Owners Dedicated to Preserving the History of
Hispanics in Oklahoma for Future Generations”

El Día del Niño”

“El Dia del Niño” or “Day of the Child”, a celebration that originated in Mexico and dates back to 1925, is celebrated each year on April 30th. It is now observed in many cities in the United States and other countries around the world. “El Día del Niño” is much more than a date, this is a day when the Hispanics celebrate our children and recognize the importance of children in society by promoting their well being.

The Greater Oklahoma City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce  working along with all the business and property owners along SW 29th St. (between S. Shields Blvd. and S. May Ave.) have decided to organize the second annual "Dia De Los Niños" street festival in Oklahoma City dedicated to our children, with the objective to bring awareness and business to the SW 29th Street Corridor.

 The goals and founding principles of this observance extend throughout beyond a street fair:
  • We recognize, honor the importance of children and childhood;
  • Promote literacy, the importance of reading by linking children to books, languages, culture in the home and at school;
  • Honor home languages, cultures by promoting bilingual,  multilingual literacy in this multicultural nation, and global understanding thru play, reading and art;
  • Influence parents to become involved in the lives of their children;
  • Encourage healthy eating habits for nourished bodies and healthy minds;
  • Show our children the value of character, community, and good citizenship;
  • Connect children with their traditions and customs
